Welcome to Utahloy International School Guangzhou, where our blend of international values, commitment to academic excellence and caring, committed staff provides an unrivalled environment for your children. Our website is designed to share our programs, activities, features and news that combine to make UISG the only international school in Guangzhou to offer a full International Baccalaureate continuum education from Kindergarten to Year 12.
Almost every day I am asked the same question: What makes UISG so special?
The strength of UISG lies in the integrity of our continuum IB programs and the open relationship between the home and the school. UISG caters to over 900 expatriate students who represent over 50 nationalities. A family atmosphere is both encouraged and apparent throughout the school, and we value diversity and operate an inclusive learning environment for all students.
Our school is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), National Centre for School Curriculum and Textbook Development, Ministry of Education (NCCT) and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). It is also authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) to provide the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. Academic rigour is assured, due to the IB frameworks and high calibre of international teachers employed.
We truly believe in all our teachers, and in the professional development of our teachers, as this creates a virtuous cycle of improvement, leading directly to student outcomes. The teaching staff comprises of highly qualified teachers, recruited from USA, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland and China.
UISG students achieve outstanding IB Diploma results every year that enable them to enrol in universities all around the world, in the US, UK, Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, to name just a few.
Academic excellence sits alongside an unrivalled extra-curricular programme. Providing a range of healthy activities characterises our approach to a well-balanced physical development programme. Students gain an understanding of the importance of fitness in their P.E. lessons, sports teams, outdoor education camps, sports tournaments, and the whole-school Fit-for-life initiative. UISG offers a vertical house structure bringing together students of all ages, taking part in artistic, sporting, social and community activities. The Arts are celebrated through music, drama, dance and visual art. Students have the opportunity to study these subjects to IB Diploma level.
Our emphasis on languages and multilingual communication helps to develop global citizens. Mother tongue languages are sustained and developed within the curriculum. Students develop an academic vocabulary, expand their language usage, and study literature and culture in their mother tongue programme. Languages currently offered in mother tongue include: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, German, Spanish and Italian.
The host country language and culture are studied through Chinese language classes, integrated units of work in the classroom and field trips in the region. Global citizenship is developed through: community service projects; environment sustainability action awareness; Roots and Shoots, Global Issues Network, and Model United Nations participation.
The school has become well known for its stimulating, supportive, caring environment. Located on the edge of a beautiful lake, nestled into forested hillsides, it is only 20 minutes from the centre of Guangzhou. Most classrooms and outdoor areas overlook the lake. The School has spacious and attractive grounds, creating a healthy, safe and pleasant environment for students.
We are proud of the vibrant community spirit in our school. In addition to our Admissions team, our Utahloy Parent-teacher Association (UPTA) is a friendly, experienced group of parents who understand your needs.
